Public Hearings on Nukes in Ky
Kentucky's for-profit utilities are interested in building nuclear power plants, because they can be very profitable. LCAN is an intervenor in the related Public Service Commission case. The PSC is hosting six public hearings around the state. Learn why you should speak out, here. Here's the hearing schedule.

If Your Utility Bills Are High Now ...
Sen. Bill 8 would allow only the Ky. Attorney General to represent residential customers when rate hikes are negotiated, yet let business and industry groups continue to be at the table. (Customers without their own representation get the biggest rate hikes.) Call the hotline, above, to tell the "full senate" you deserve independent representation, too.

Who Picks Up The Tab?
Sen. Bill 57 before the Ky. legislature calls for ratepayers and taxpayers to subsidize a utility's costs for seeking permits to build a nuclear power plant long before it might ever be built. Call 800-372-7181, the legislative hotline to tell the full senate your electric bills are high enough, and you don't want to pay more for fishing expeditions.

Expanded Licenses to Pollute?
Sen. Bill 178, aka the "Body Count Bill," would restrict state agency's ability to protect public health and the environment. It would prohibit them from adopting protections stronger than federal standards. If no federal standards exist, the bill would require proof of manifest bodily harm before action could be taken! Learn more here. Then, call the hotline to tell the full Senate to protect your and all Kentuckians' health.
