ACT NOW
Turn your concern into power
Every day without new rules is another day developers can exploit to build another data center. Louisville Metro finally issued draft rules, but they have lots of problems. We need and deserve better. Please take action today:
Easy Step: Sign this petition for protective rules and, until then, a temporary moratorium.
Better Step: Submit comments on the draft ordinance.
-
Choose one or more of the concerns in black, below. Write why they matter to you.
-
Ask that the mayor's draft be replaced with Kentucky Resources Council's model ordinance.
-
Add that non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) are anti-democractic and therefore unacceptable.
Copy and paste your comments into each of these forms:
The Mayor's draft ordinance is convoluted, has serious loopholes and uses jargon, so here's LCAN's short of list of priority changes for your consideration:
-
Eliminate arbitrary tiers. Regulate all data centers on the basis of how much they would impact neighbors, everyone's utility bills, etc.
-
Eliminate loopholes. No proposed data center should be approved without public input, opportunity for a hearing and Metro Council review. Create a new "Industrial Data Center" zoning classification for all data centers and require all proposers to obtain a Conditional Use Permit (CUP).
-
Ensure that all other electric, natural gas, water and wastewater utility customers won't be forced to subsidize data centers with higher bills or poorer service.
-
Ensure that data centers don't prevent Louisville from achieving our 100% renewable energy goals.
-
Limit off-site noise as measured on all decibel scales, including when generators are running, using technology and set-backs.
THANK YOU for exercising your civic muscle.
